Overview Of The Footsteps For The Cure Weekend, October 4-6, 2024:

Each morning the route starts from the Holiday Inn Express in Canton and follows the day’s designated course.  Friday and Saturday’s journeys will bring you back to the hotel.  On Sunday, the route again leaves from the hotel and finishes up the remaining miles in Downtown Canton where you can celebrate with your fellow Pink Warriors.

Wear the comfortable clothes and shoes that you’ve been training in.  Pack your belly bag with your tested snacks and make sure that your water bottle is full.  Be prepared for the local October weather and bring a change of socks for midday.

On average, it takes about 6-7 hours to walk this type of distance each day (of course Sunday being shorter since the distance is less).  During that time, it is recommended that for every hour you walk, you should stretch for 5 minutes.  Although that seems like a long day (which it is), keep in mind that during that time, you should be stopping every 3-4 miles to take a break, stretch, use the bathroom, stay hydrated, as well as stop to eat lunch somewhere in the middle.

Throughout each day the trail will take you through beautiful neighborhoods, city parks, busy roads and quiet streets.  You will pass stores, shops and gas stations, so there will be plenty of opportunities for you to replenish snacks, eat lunch, refill water bottles and use the bathroom.  There might also be some surprises along the way.  All this information will be clearly marked on the route description/map, along with suggestions and photo ops.

As with any physical activity, please use common sense and safety precautions – especially when crossing streets (the route always uses crosswalks!!). Please be aware that there will be no access to medical attention or sweep vans (transportation) if needed, so please plan to make arrangements to have someone on call if you need help or decide that you are finished walking for the day.  Again, taking part in any/all activities associated with this walk will be at your own risk.

At the end of each day, take the time to relax and recharge for the next day.  The very first step in this is to eat dinner and rehydrate.  Showers can wait – refueling is more important and will prevent you from passing out in a hot shower.  It is also best to avoid dehydrating liquids like tea, coffee and alcohol.  Getting a good night sleep is also essential to your body’s recovery and preparation for the next day, so you can get up and do it again (and again).

Whether you’re in it for a day or determined to do the whole walk, just know that you are rising to the challenge.
